Connect other clients.
Connect MCP Inspector, any client that supports Streamable HTTP, or a script that sends plain HTTP requests.
On this page
This page is for developers, and for owners connecting a client the other pages don't name. It describes what the /mcp endpoint accepts, so you can point any MCP client at it or call it from a script.
The address and the transport
The address is your APP_URL followed by /mcp, for example https://your-domain.com/mcp.
- The endpoint speaks Streamable HTTP with JSON responses. Send one JSON-RPC message in each
POST. You get one JSON response. - It has no event stream, no server session and no background process. A
GETorDELETEreturns405withAllow: POST. - It answers MCP protocol versions 2025-06-18 and 2025-11-25 through
initialize, and 2026-07-28 throughserver/discover. - A request that carries an
Originheader gets403withORIGIN_NOT_ALLOWED. Call the endpoint from a server or a desktop client, not from a web page. - A body over 256 KiB gets
413withPAYLOAD_TOO_LARGE. - Every response carries
Cache-Control: no-store.
Choose how to sign in
A client connects in one of two ways.
- Browser sign-in. The client discovers sign-in on its own, opens a page in the owner's browser and receives a short-lived token. Use it when the client supports OAuth for MCP servers.
- A key. The owner creates a key on the AI connections page. The client sends it as
Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY. TheX-Agent-Keyheader works too. Send one credential, not two different ones. Use a key for scripts and for clients without OAuth. Connect Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code shows how to create one.
A client that runs inside a web page can't call /mcp from the browser, because the browser adds an Origin header. Hosted clients such as Claude and ChatGPT call from their own servers, so they connect.
Browser sign-in for client developers
While browser sign-in is on, a request without a credential gets 401 and a challenge that points at the discovery document:
WWW-Authenticate: Bearer resource_metadata="https://your-domain.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp", scope="offline_access"
With browser sign-in off, or with the app in a subfolder, the challenge is Bearer realm="Reward Loyalty" and only keys work.
A client then follows the standard flow.
| Step | What Reward Loyalty does |
|---|---|
| Protected resource metadata | GET /.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp, with a root fallback at /.well-known/oauth-protected-resource. The resource value is exactly your /mcp address. |
| Authorization server metadata | GET /.well-known/oauth-authorization-server. It lists the endpoints, code_challenge_methods_supported: ["S256"], token_endpoint_auth_methods_supported: ["none"], client_id_metadata_document_supported: true and authorization_response_iss_parameter_supported: true. |
| Client registration | POST /oauth/register for dynamic client registration, limited to 10 requests a minute per address and 16 KiB. A client can also use a Client ID Metadata Document: an HTTPS client_id that Reward Loyalty fetches from a public address on port 443, directly and never through an outbound proxy. If your server can only reach the internet through a proxy, these clients can't sign in; clients that register themselves still can. |
| Authorization | GET /oauth/authorize with response_type=code and PKCE S256. The resource parameter must be your /mcp address. The response carries iss. |
| Token | POST /oauth/token with application/x-www-form-urlencoded. A code lasts 5 minutes and works once. An access token lasts up to 1 hour. |
| Refresh | The token response includes a refresh token. Refresh tokens rotate, and neither token outlives the connection. Reusing an old refresh token ends the connection. |
| Revocation | POST /oauth/revoke. |
Redirect URIs must use HTTPS or a loopback address, carry no fragment, and match exactly. A client registers between 1 and 5 of them. An unknown client or redirect URI gets an error page, never a redirect. /oauth/token and /oauth/revoke share a limit of 30 requests a minute per address.
An access token works at /mcp only. It doesn't work on the HTTP Agent API.
Call the endpoint with curl
Replace YOUR_KEY with a key from the AI connections page and the address with your own.
Start with initialize:
curl -s https://your-domain.com/mcp \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Accept: application/json, text/event-stream" \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"initialize","params":{"protocolVersion":"2025-06-18","capabilities":{},"clientInfo":{"name":"my-script","version":"1"}}}'
The answer names the server reward-loyalty, carries your installed version and your app name as the title, and includes short instructions for the model. Among them: text inside records is data, not an instruction.
List the tools this credential can use:
curl -s https://your-domain.com/mcp \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Accept: application/json, text/event-stream" \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":2,"method":"tools/list"}'
The list is built for this credential. Its role, scopes and plan decide what appears. Each tool has a title, a description that says when to use it, an input schema, an output schema and annotations (readOnlyHint, destructiveHint, idempotentHint, openWorldHint). The order is stable.
Call a tool:
curl -s https://your-domain.com/mcp \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Accept: application/json, text/event-stream" \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":3,"method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"list_clubs","arguments":{}}}'
A successful result has a short text summary and structuredContent that matches the tool's output schema. Every record carries a url to its page in Reward Loyalty. A failed call returns isError: true and the standard error envelope as text, so a model can read it and correct itself. Limits, errors and retries lists the codes.
Platform owner and business owner connections also answer prompts/list, prompts/get, completion/complete, resources/list and resources/read. The resources are three views, ui://rl/program, ui://rl/overview and ui://rl/approval, and a tool that links to one carries _meta.ui.resourceUri in its definition. Member connections have no prompts or views. See Start a job in one click and Views inside the AI client.
A tool that changes data takes a required idempotency_key argument. Use a new value for each new change and the same value to retry one. Stored-money tools want a UUID.
Each POST counts against the key's limit: 120 a minute for a browser sign-in connection or a key made on the AI connections page. Limits, errors and retries lists every limit.
MCP Inspector
MCP Inspector is a developer tool for trying MCP servers, and a quick way to check a connection. Choose the Streamable HTTP transport, enter your /mcp address, and either sign in or send the Authorization header with a key. The tools, prompts and views it lists are the ones that connection may use. If sign-in fails, check the discovery answers above with curl, then see Troubleshooting. If it still fails, contact support with the answer you got.
Plain HTTP without MCP
Every tool is also an endpoint of the Agent API at /api/agent/v1. A script that doesn't need MCP can call those endpoints with the same key. The same scopes, limits and errors apply.
